About

I'm Cerith Mathias, a freelance journalist, producer, writer and events manager from Wales and the Director of

mockingbird media

My arts and travel journalism appears in publications both in the UK and in the US.

I have a particular interest in American LIterature, especially that from the South. I've covered events such as the annual Tennessee Williams New Orleans Literary Festival; interviewed international best-selling authors, Hollywood, West End and Broadway stars and am a regular on the Southern Literary Trail. I am currently completing my first book - on the literature of the Deep South.

I am the Director of Cardiff Book Festival and Pontypridd Children's Book Festival and am Co-Director of Pontypridd Books, a book shop based in Pontypridd's arts hub ARTtic.

My TV work includes political and current affairs programmes and large scale live TV debates. I was Series Editor of BBC Wales' flagship weekly Political Programme The Wales Report with Huw Edwards for its 5 year run and worked in BBC Wales' Political Unit for over a decade, starting out as a broadcast journalist, before going on to produce a variety of political programmes on TV and radio, including large scale live television event programming.

I've managed a number of special projects in BBC Wales' newsroom, including co-ordinating and producing BBC Wales' involvement in the Hidden Heroines project to erect the first ever statue of a named woman in Cardiff.

As a freelance producer, I produced the arts & culture podcast FMIC and the BBC Radio Cymru radio documentary Merched y Bleidlais.

I'm a Contributing Editor to Wales Arts Review and a writer for Deep South Magazine and a member of the Monumental Welsh Women Group - a campaign to erect 5 statues of 5 remarkable Welsh women in 5 years.

After leaving the BBC to go freelance in 2012 I established mockingbird media and it's here you'll find my latest articles, interviews and blog posts along with information on my other projects.
